New England Patriots Spotlight: Brandin Cooks – New England Patriots News

After winning last season’s Super Bowl against the Atlanta Falcons with the greatest comeback in NFL history, the New England Patriots made a multitude of offseason moves to improve their team even more. It is clear the Patriots want to take full advantage of the last few years that Tom Brady has left. Arguably their biggest move was acquiring Brandin Cooks from the New Orleans Saints. This moved gave the Patriots another aspect to their offense and definitely improved their core of wide receivers.

Cooks is only 23 years old and has already played three seasons in the NFL. He was drafted in the first round, 20th overall selection in the 2014 NFL draft. He was a very productive player in his time in New Orleans with Drew Brees as the quarterback and there’s no reason to think he can’t be just as good and maybe even better with the Patriots. His last two years were nearly identical. He played in all 16 games both years which is impressive due to his small stature and position that he plays. In the 2015 season, he caught 84 passes for 1,138 yards and nine touchdown passes. Last year, Cooks caught 78 passes for 1,173 yards and eight touchdown passes. Those are solid numbers for any receiver in the NFL and if Cooks gives the Patriots those stats this season they will be very happy with his production. At 23 years old, Cooks still has a few more years before he enters his prime and will continue to improve and improve. If coach Bill Belichick wants this player and is willing to pay him…
