Colts center Ryan Kelly has improved outlook: Pagano says out a week or two – Indianapolis Colts News

Colts head coach Chuck Pagano sat down to speak with Bob Lamey for an interview on Colts Radio on Friday. During that interview Lamey asked about second-year center Ryan Kelly’s health after he suffered a foot injury on Thursday.

The initial reports indicated that he would miss a few weeks — likely putting him in line to return about the time the regular season got underway. It would require a lot of catching up in what could be only a week of practice to prepare for Los Angeles. Pagano’s comments on Friday suggest that he may return sooner:

He’s probably a week or two. The evaluation was a lot better than we anticipated. I think he’s dealt with something like this before, back in college. So we’re hopeful that he makes great progress every day.

After numerous season of suffering injuries along the offensive line, the Colts can ill-afford to have a major setback in the continuity they have been building during the off-season program and training camp. The quick return of Kelly will have a positive impact on the unit’s ability to continue growing together, particularly after Jack Mewhort switched to right guard.

This is encouraging news to start off the weekend as Indianapolis tries to avoid the preseason injury bug that costs teams dearly every year. Let’s hope we have similar news to share on Monday morning.
