For Greg Robinson and Cornelius Washington, their stay on the non-football injury list was short-lived.
One day after the Detroit Lions placed Robinson and Washington on NFI for the start of training camp, the team activated the players for today’s first practice.
Robinson is expected to compete for the starting left tackle job with Cyrus Kouandjio while Taylor Decker rehabs from off-season shoulder surgery, and Washington adds depth to one of the Lions’ thinnest positions on defense.
Fellow defensive ends Ziggy Ansah, Armonty Bryant and Jeremiah Valoaga remain on the physically-unable-to-perform list nursing injuries, and Bryant will serve a four-game suspension to start the season.
On Saturday, the Lions placed Robinson and Washington on NFI and Ansah and offensive guard Brandon Thomas on PUP.
Robinson, acquired in a June trade with the Los Angeles Rams, is expected to split first-team reps with Kouandjio this preseason. Kouandjio was removed from NFI on Saturday following off-season hip surgery.
The Lions host their first practice of training camp at 3:30 p.m. today, but won’t have their first padded practice until Tuesday.
