Analyzing the Indianapolis Colts’ Inside Linebacker Position Battle – Indianapolis Colts News

Heading into training camp and pre-season, one of the biggest questions that remains for the Colts is who will start at inside linebacker in 2017. It’s expected to be one of the most competitive battles for playing time on the whole roster.

Both of the inside linebacker starting positions are completely up for grabs. Five candidates will battle for a starting position and the starters likely won’t be determined until week one of the regular season.

Inside linebacker was one of the Colts biggest problems all season long in 2016. Lack of speed, coverage ability, and tackling skills plagued them all year long.

“Antonio Morrison is a definite name to watch at inside linebacker. Through two practices, Morrison continues to show up, oftentimes next to Jon Bostic. The two Florida Gator products have been the main starters, with Edwin Jackson also factoring in, more so on passing downs.”

The five candidates competing for a starting spot include second-year returning players Edwin Jackson and Antonio Morrison. Free-agent pick ups Sean Spence and Jon Bostic will also be competing. The final candidate, and only rookie, competing for a spot is Anthony Walker Jr.
