5 Standouts from Training Camp, July 30 – Tampa Bay Buccaneers News

1. RB Doug Martin
On Sunday, after months of workouts in shorts and t-shirts, the shoulder pads finally came on. Martin has looked strong all offseason, but evaluating a running back during non-contact drills is a difficult task. Martin’s performance on Sunday reaffirmed what many of the Bucs’ coaches have been saying all spring – that he’s in excellent shape, running hard and poised for a strong season. Martin was also active in the passing game during practice.

2. TE Alan Cross
The Buccaneers may carry a fullback on their 53-man roster this season. But if the team chooses not to, Cross could be a player to fill that role. He worked with the first-team offense as their fullback on Sunday and caught a handful of passes as a tight end during practice.

3. LB Richie Brown
There weren’t many interceptions recorded on Sunday, but Brown was able to get one off of Jameis Winston. The Bucs’ defense had a handful of opportunities for more picks, with Devante Bond and Adarius Glanton both dropping catchable balls. It’s worth noting, though, that the rain was coming down hard near the end of practice.

4. WR Donteea Dye
The Buccaneers are deep at wide receiver, so players battling for a roster spot will need to prove their worth on special teams. Dye, Josh Huff and Bobo Wilson were all back returning kicks on Sunday, but Dye was the first player up. Dye returned two kickoffs for an average of 18.5 yards during the 2015 season.
