Canaan Severin is back on the Steelers’ active roster, as the team activated him off of their PUP list on Saturday.
Severin, signed by the team after going undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft, was on Pittsburgh’s PUP list for two days after being carted off the field after failing the team’s conditioning test on Thursday.
The second year receiver said a sickle cell trait flared on up on him Thursday which prevented him from finishing the team run, according to Jacob Klinger of PennLive.com.
The addition of Severin will be beneficial for the Steelers, who dressed just seven receivers on Saturday. Sammie Coates (knee) remains on the team’s PUP list, while JuJu Smith-Schuster will be out for the next several practices after suffering a minor ankle sprain on Friday.
Pittsburgh has also been without Martavis Bryant, who has not been permitted to practice or play by the NFL as part of his conditional reinstatement. The team doesn’t know when Bryant will be able to join his teammates during practice.
