2018 Indianapolis Colts Free Agents Part 4 – Indianapolis Colts News

The regular season may be just over a month away, but it’s never too early to be looking ahead to next offseason.

Cornerback

The Colts will have plenty of questions to answer at the cornerback position this offseason, and the most important one is whether they’ll re-sign Vontae Davis.

Davis has been a legitimate shutdown corner when he’s at the top of his game, and he finally got the recognition he deserved making it to the Pro Bowl in 2014 and 2015.

2016 was a different story as it was probably the worst season of Davis’ career, which could probably be explained by some nagging injuries that affected him all year.

The Colts will be keeping a close eye on Davis in 2017 as they try to determine whether he can bounce back and earn another contract with the Colts this offseason.

Rashaan Melvin played the number two cornerback role for the Colts last season after Darius Butler was forced to move to safety due to injuries at the position.

Melvin had a solid year in his first NFL season where he saw significant playing time. He finished the year with 52 tackles, 7 pass deflections, and 2 forced fumbles.

Melvin will likely be the number three cornerback on the Colts depth chart this season with the addition of rookie Quincy Wilson. If Melvin looks good in that role, the Colts may have found a nice diamond in the rough.
