As training camp sits right around the corner, the Chargers are a trendy pick to make the playoffs. They feature young, budding stars on defense and what looks to be a high-powered offense.
The aforementioned offense features a plethora of talented weapons. ESPN’s Bill Barnwell thinks the Chargers have one of the best offensive arsenals in the NFL.
Out of all of the teams, the Chargers ranked 7th on the list. Placing just ahead of the rival Oakland Raiders and their young core.
Here’s a piece of what Barnwell said about the Chargers weapons.
The concern in 2017, of course, is more injuries. The Chargers are already worried about first-round pick Mike Williams, who has been sidelined since the first practice of minicamp with a back injury. Allen has missed 23 of the past 24 games and hasn’t played a single 16-game season as a pro. Gordon has dealt with knee injuries in each of his first two years, and there’s little depth at running back. Gates is 37 years old. The Chargers could be a top-three unit if everyone stays healthy, but it’s foolish to count on that happening.
This is pretty much the negative part of his analysis. The Chargers have injury questions at nearly every skill position. Headlined by star receiver Keenan Allen and first-round pick Mike Williams, whose future is still unclear.
Of course, injuries are going to be the biggest concern heading into this season. The Chargers have been decimated by them for the past two years. The difference this season, it may be the only way to stop the Chargers.
