Brandon Burks did not need for this to happen.

According to the Dothan Eagle, the former Green Bay Packers and New York Jets running back was arrested on Saturday in Alabama. He was charged with a misdemeanor second-degree marijuana possession.

Burks was booked into the Coffee County Jail after being arrested at a traffic stop in the area. Burks was one of the four occupants in the vehicle and officers spotted marijuana “in very close proximity to Burks.” According to the records, there were no other people arrested with Burks.

The Troy alum signed with the Packers last year as a rookie free agent. He was cut by the Packers before the start of the season but was then signed to the practice squad in November. Burks was cut from the practice squad a week later and signed with the Jets in December to join their practice squad. He was promoted to the active roster on Dec. 28, but was waived by the Jets back in April.

Burks played for Troy from 2012-15. In his final season, Burks became the seventh player in school history to rush for over 1,000 yards in a season.
