The New York Giants went through the entire 2016 season with a scandal surrounding their kicker situation. This led them to cut Josh Brown and sign Robbie Gould, who has since signed on with the San Francisco 49ers.
This leaves the Giants with having only one kicker currently on the roster and that would be Aldrick Rosas, a 22-year-old who has a reputation for a big leg. He could be getting some help or competition during training camp as former Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes tweeted that he will be present when camp starts up later this month.
Obviously, it isn’t known in what capacity Tynes will be joining the Giants. He could be looking to make a comeback or he could have just been asked by the organization to mentor Rosas and anyone else who is brought in to compete for the spot.
Tynes hasn’t kicked since the 2012 season, his last one with the Giants and his career ended earlier than expected when he contracted the MRSA bacterial infection while with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2013.
Since being released following that season, Tynes has been out of football so it could be an interesting notion if he is looking to make a comeback but no information has been given regarding his status.
