With just days before the Pittsburgh Steelers begin training camp, Mike Purista of the team’s official site caught up with starting left tackle Ramon Foster and he had plenty of good things to say about a couple of the young cornerbacks on the roster.
He had plenty of good things to say about second-year cornerback Artie Burns.
A calmness, a person that looks like he knows what route to defend, a guy that looks like he realizes this is a business now. His speed is catching up to his play. Mentally he seems like he’s there in how he’s approaching work. He’s a very cerebral guy and you can tell he’s a hell of an athlete. It looks like everything is catching up if you compare that to last year where he was just playing. Now, he’s playing and understanding.
The Steelers need Burns to step up and be the team’s No. 1 cornerback. This team is going to see a long string of top-flight wide receiver and Burns is the team’s best bet to be that shutdown guy who takes the other team’s best wide receiver away.
But Foster also had some positive things to say about rookie cornerback Mike Hilton.
Also, (first-year cornerback) Mike (Hilton), No. 40, the DB, I had to ask Kevin Colbert about him, who is this guy? He’s comfortable going with the No. 1s. He’s a guy that’s always making a play. He’s shifty, he doesn’t look rattled.
Pittsburgh’s cornerback depth chart has had a big makeover this offseason. It’s hard to say if there will be enough room on the 53-man roster for a player like Hilton, but if he can have a strong camp he could find himself on the team’s practice squad.
