Jaguars positional breakdown: Comparing the current quarterback position group to last year – Jacksonville Jaguars News

The Jaguars quarterback group didn’t change personnel-wise this offseason, After current starter Blake Bortles came off of a disappointing 2016 campaign, that was a shock to some Jaguars fans.

However, here we are.

The position group does have a “new” offensive coordinator and a new position coach heading forward, however, in Nathaniel Hackett and Scott Milanovich, respectively. Hackett had the “interim” tag removed early in the offseason after taking over for Greg Olson in Week 10 last year. Milanovich took the job as quarterbacks coach after a five year head coaching stint for the Toronto Argonauts, where he compiled a 43-47 record and one Grey Cup win.

Compared to this time in the 2016 offseason, when practically everyone believed Bortles was the team’s franchise QB, the quarterback position looks to have very much regressed. At this point, people are already questioning if and when Bortles will be benched in 2017 if his performance is poor. The depth behind Bortles remains the same as well: sixth year Jaguar Chad Henne and 2016 sixth round pick Brandon Allen.

However, whether Bortles has fixed his 2016 mechanical, decision making, and seemingly confidence issues or not, which has yet to be seen, the position group has been given a fresh start coaching wise. Milanovich was a nine year QB coach before becoming Toronto’s head coach, so he has the résumé to give fans some hope for the future of the quarterback position, even if Bortles isn’t the future at the position.
