Roster locks: Charles Leno, Kyle Long, Cody Whitehair, Josh Sitton.

Good bets: Bobby Massie, Eric Kush, Hroniss Grasu.

On the bubble: Tom Compton, Jordan Morgan.

Camp depth: Taylor Boggs, Will Poehls, Bradley Sowell.

Practice squad candidates: Mitchell Kirsch, Dieugot Joseph, Cyril Richardson.

Biggest offseason developments: The Bears decided to have Kyle Long and Josh Sitton switch sides, putting Long at left guard — his third position in five NFL seasons — and Sitton on the right — where he played five seasons for the Packers. Position coach Dave Magazu was fired after two seasons; Jeremiah Washburn replaced him. The Bears guaranteed Eric Kush $500,000 as part of a two-year, $2.7 million deal, an indication they value him as a top interior backup. Jordan Morgan was drafted in the fifth round.

What to like: There’s quite a bit of continuity in this group, which, despite serious injury problems in the interior, helped Jordan Howard set the franchise rookie rushing record with 1,313 yards. Cody Whitehair is coming off an extremely promising rookie season in which he started all 16 games at center after practicing at guard for most of training camp. He approached the move selflessly and steadily picked up the mental responsibilities of playing center, including calling protections. He’s tough, has strong hands and he can run fairly well. The lower-body strength he demonstrated excited the organization, which believes he will put his occasional difficulties with the center-quarterback…
