DeMarcus Lawrence

Position: Defensive end

Size: 6-3, 265

Age when season starts: 25

College: Boise State

Drafted: Second round, No. 34 overall, by Dallas in 2014

Experience: Fourth season

Contract status: In final year of four-year rookie contract worth $5.5 million.

2016 recap: Lawrence missed the opening four games while serving a suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. He missed the final three games with a back issue. He still managed to rank fourth on the team with 13 quarterback pressures, but he only mustered one sack.

2017 outlook: Lawrence underwent back surgery for the second offseason in a row, but Dallas hopes he can return to his 2015 form, when he had a team-best eight sacks. This is the final year of his rookie contract, so a big year could help him in the future. He could be the Cowboys’ best hope to finally finding a consistent pass rush.
