Pro Football Focus projects Chargers to finish 10-6 in 2017 – Los Angeles Chargers Blog – Los Angeles Chargers News

COSTA MESA, Calif. — Pro Football Focus projects the Los Angeles Chargers to double the team’s win total from last year and finish 10-6 in 2017.

The analytics-based website projected the quality of each team, using those projections to predict the outcome of all 256 regular-season games.

Pro Football Focus takes into consideration Keenan Allen and Jason Verrett returning to the field healthy, along with several talent players already on the roster in Joey Bosa, Melvin Ingram, Philip Rivers and Casey Hayward.

The Oakland Raiders are the highest-projected AFC West team at 11-5, followed by the Chargers at 10-6, the Kansas City Chiefs at 9-7 and the Denver Broncos at 6-10.

My take: Earlier I predicted the Chargers would finish 9-7 this season so I’m also bullish on this team rebounding from back-to-back poor seasons. I would be surprised to see the Broncos finish at 6-10 and expect them to hover around .500.

Ricky Henne of Chargers.com talks with receivers coach Nick Sirianni about his group. Sirianni had this to say about Mike Williams: “Mike has the capability to singlehandedly change a game. He doesn’t even necessarily have to be open; he just knows how to make the catch. This is a guy who catches almost every ball no matter who’s on him or where he is on the field. It doesn’t matter if a guy is draped on his back. Mike brings another big receiver to Philip (Rivers), who has had success with bigger receivers. You think of Malcom [Floyd] who would go up and get the football. This guy can do that. He showed in college over and over again that he has the basketball awareness that Malcom had to go up and rebound…
