The free agent pool is still deep, and the Giants have some rather lean positions on the depth chart. Let’s take a look at some potential targets the G-Men should consider.
The New York Giants have several spots on the roster that could use some free agent support, and with a few gems lurking at the bottom of the pool the Giants should consider these players:
1.) ILB Perry Riley
With the Giants only bolstering a young B.J. Goodson at middle line backer, it may be a smart move to invest in some veteran experience.
Perry Riley has been a solid player throughout his career, and hasn’t been injury prone which is a big plus for a Giants team that has suffered from the injury bug in recent years.
In 2016, Riley played in 11 games for the Oakland Raiders, recording 38 tackles and two forced fumbles. Adding additional veteran leadership to the defense surely can’t hurt, the big question is his price tag. If Big Blue can scoop him up on the cheap, he could be a valuable asset down the road.
Darian Thompson and Andrew Adams headline the safety position for the Giants, an inexperienced group at best.
Although Adams played valiantly, and Thompson had high expectations before suffering a season ending injury, the bottom line is that experience is minimal in the secondary.
Former Miami Dolphin Isa Abdul-Quddus could be the man to provide the safety position with a bit of veteran leadership and grit.
Abdul-Quddus has been a victim of the injury bug during his career, but started in 15 games last season for the Dolphins. He recorded two interceptions, five passes defended and 49 tackles.
