Franchise records likely to soon be broken – Atlanta Falcons News

The Atlanta Falcons broke several franchise records this past season, with perhaps the most memorable being Julio Jones’ 300 reception yards in a single game against the Carolina Panthers in Week 4. Relive that epic performance here.

With that in mind, let’s look at some of the Atlanta Falcons’ franchise records that look ready to be broken in 2017.

Single Game Passing Touchdowns: Wade Wilson – 5 (December 13, 1992)

It’s surprising that this record doesn’t already belong to Matt Ryan, but Ryan is certainly capable of breaking this record. There were three games where Ryan threw four touchdowns in 2016, and with Julio Jones supposedly getting more action in the redzone this season, this record seems unlikely to last much longer.

Single Game Interceptions: Multiple – 2

Several Falcons have recorded two interceptions in a game, but Robert Alford stands out as the obvious candidate to go for three. His uncanny ballhawking ability and the anticipated support of an improved pass rush in 2017 make for exciting potential to create turnovers.

Also, don’t sleep on Deion Jones, who defended seven passes in 2016 and showed impressive ability in coverage.

Single Season Sacks: John Abraham – 16.5 (2008)

Unfortunately, Vic Beasley fell just one sack short of tying this franchise record in 2016 with 15.5. With the additions of Dontari Poe and Takkarist McKinley, Beasley may face more competition for sacks in 2017, but he will also have more help in applying pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
