With a nickname like The Human Joystick, Tarik Cohen already has high expectations placed on him by Chicago Bears fans.
Cohen, who the Bears took in the fourth round of this year’s draft, has already drawn comparisons to Philadelphia Eagles running back Darren Sproles before even stepping foot on an NFL field.
While there is still a lot of unknown with Cohen, he feels good about what his role will be this season in Chicago.
‘‘I can come in and be a change-of-pace back, stretch the defense out,’’ Cohen said, via Adam L. Jahns of the Chicago Sun-Times. ‘‘So when [Jordan] Howard gets in, he has those vertical lanes and can be the type of slasher back that he is.’’
At 5’6″ and 179 pounds, Cohen does not possess the size to be an every-down back in the NFL, and he understands his role will be spread out opposing defenses. In four years at North Carolina A&T Cohen rushed for 5,619 yards with 56 touchdowns. He also caught 98 passes for 945 yards with three touchdowns. During that four-year stretch he averaged 6.5 yards per carry, including an impressive 7.5 yards per carry in his senior season.
‘‘I think I’m going to be finding a niche here in the offense,’’ said Cohen.‘‘I’m getting a hang of all the things they want me to do. And I feel like when I get that, I’ll be a factor in this offense.”
