Former Buffalo Bills RB Fred Jackson to play in Spring League Showcase game – Buffalo Bills News

Back in February, former Buffalo Bills running back Fred Jackson expressed his desire to continue playing in the NFL.

“Playing-wise, I would love to play again,” Jackson said at the Sioux City Bandits’ season opener. “You know, I’m going to try and see if I could get on a roster again. I’m going to try and see if I can get on a roster this year, training camps and things like that. If I can get into one I’m going to try to spend the next two, three months trying to get on a roster. And you know, if it doesn’t happen I’m going to hang my hat on the ten years that I did play. I was in contact with a few teams last year about coming in, and things just never worked out. We’ll see. We’ll shake those branches and see if something happens. If it doesn’t, like I said, I had ten years that I played and I enjoyed every minute of it.”

Jackson, 36, hasn’t received any offers since the start of the offseason, but he’s going to get a chance to show the league he still belongs.¬†Pro Football Talk reported on Monday that Jackson will participate in a Spring League Showcase game on July 15 at Napa Memorial Stadium. Jackson won’t be the only former Bills player or coach in attendance. Fellow running back Anthony Dixon will also take part in the game and former defensive backs coach Donnie Henderson will coach the Spring League East team.

A strong performance by Jackson could lead to a team giving the running back a roster spot before the start of training camp. Jackson is currently third all-time in Bills rushing history with 5,646 yards in 106 career games. He added an additional 2,640 yards receiving during his time in…
