The heart of NFL free agency is over but that doesn’t mean that a team like the New York Giants can’t find a gem or two on the open market.
As of today, the Giants have over $8 million in available cap space, leaving them with plenty of room to give an accomplished veteran a contract.
Let’s look at the options.
4. Vince Wilfork
Yes, big Vince Wilfork is still out there on the open market, although, some are unsure whether he’s completely committed on returning to the game next season.
Vince had one of the worse seasons of his career last season with the Houston Texans, but he also took almost 600 snaps (Damon Harrison took 720 snaps as a starter for the Giants last season).
It’s likely that he would be way more effective in a lighter role which is exactly what the Giants would ask him to take if he signed, considering, their expectations for second round pick, Dalvin Tomlinson.
3. Tramaine Brock
Arguably, the best “value play” remaining on the free agent market is former San Francisco 49ers cornerback Tramaine Brock.
Ranked as the 23rd best corner last season, according to Pro Football Focus, Brock took almost 1,100 snaps on a bad team and still performed at a high level.
His grade of 81.8 was almost 30 points higher than Eli Apple, and his signing would be very similar to what the team did prior to last year when they added Leon Hall to their roster.
2. Jairus Byrd
After intercepting 22 passes in five seasons with the Buffalo Bills, Jairus Byrd picked just three passes off in three seasons with the New Orleans Saints.
