It’s been no secret that Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr has been wanting an extension from the team for some time now.
Since a deal hasn’t been reached yet, that prompted former cornerbacks Deion Sanders and Ike Taylor to discuss the topic on NFL Network.
“You know he has to get paid,” said Taylor. “He’s made that publicly known he has to get paid.”
Taylor then asked a series of rhetorical questions to back up his point.
“When was the last time the Oakland Raiders made the playoffs,” said Taylor. “Who looks like a a future franchise quarterback who has the swag?”
After making some speculations as to what may have happened in the playoffs if Carr hadn’t been injured, he gave a few more reasons why the Silver and Black just need to get the deal done.
“This is a young team thats going to bring attitude wit the beast mode behind him,” said Taylor. “They got a nice offensive line. Pay the man.”
“Prime Time” agreed with Taylor, and had some nice things to say about the quarterback as well.
“I think he is class personified and is the next big thing at the quarterback position.” Sanders said.
According to Carr if the team fails to reach a deal by the start of training camp, he has made it clear he wont negotiate once in football mode, stating “I wont even answer my phone if it has to do with that.”
If the team doesn’t want to risk upsetting their franchise quarterback, general manager Reggie McKenzie should be doing all he can between now and the start of camp to make sure he’s a Raider for the foreseeable future.
